January 17, 2013

Today we had the carpets cleaned in the RV.  It was the first time since owning it we had them cleaned.

South of the park is farm and pasture land; over tne past few days there have been a large number of sand hill cranes using it for R & R and have been making lots of noise and flying in huge flocks close by.  Late at night there is a pair of owls talking back and forth across the area.

January 15, 2013

The last time I posted to this blog was July, 27; several things have happened since that post. Carlyn had a tooth that was bothering her and our priority was to resolve that before doing much of anything else. Come to find out the tooth with the infection was cracked, and it was the anchor tooth for a 5 unit bridge; we had it pulled, and the bridge removed; impressions were taken and several weeks were needed for a partial to be made, and fitted. So we just stayed in Polk for the summer. Many meals were eaten with friends, and at the Senior Center much of the time.  Mike spent many mornings drinking coffee with his friends, and riding herd on the city park, doing some mowing, and cleaning the pavilion and restrooms.

We left for Texas before Halloween. The kids were busy and Dallas was having football and a Nascar Rally so didn't stay long! We arrived at Lone Star Corral in Hondo, Texas  November 3rd. Merle and Evelyn came to Honda for a visit. There were a couple items which should be included: we noticed a fluctuation in the oil pressure of the motorhome. Located a mechanic, and a replacement for the oil pressure switch; after it was replaced the pressure read properly, and we were able to travel to Dallas for Christmas with the kids; secondly in mid-November we purchased a new lot we were looking at. It is much closer to the clubhouse. We found dry rot in the building on the old lot, and had it repaired before putting that lot up for sale. The old lot was sold this month.

During our Christmas trip to Dallas we got caught in a snowstorm which caused us to stay for an extra day to avoid the cold and slick roads; but enjoyed watching the kids trying to build a snowman, and throwing showballs; a real treat for them!

This month we have had cold rain, some wind, lots of clouds.  And worst of all the flu was everywhere, we didn't spend much time socializing either in the park, or in Hondo.

July 27, 2012

Today our high here in Nebraska was in the high 80's rather than the 100's. There has been no rain and the drought continues; in fact, the corn cutters have already arrived and started cutting today. Some of the farmers have been bailing their corn rather than trying to harvest it. I have been seeing many cattle trucks coming through town, which means the farmers are also getting rid of their livestock, too.  Watch for your grocery prices to go up in the near future!

July 18, 2012

Today we went to the York Hospital Hospital to have a new hand brace crafted to replace her old one that doesn't stay put. It took most of the afternoon.
Carlyn has a dentist appointment August 1 to act upon the persistent infection around her tooth we have talked about earlier.
The weather here has been hot, humid but no badly needed rain. All of Nebraska is in a drought right now. The weather is to continue to remain the same into the unforseeable future.

On July 3rd Carlyn had a dentist appoint to address a swelling of her gum above the tooth that is an anchor tooth for a five tooth bridge. After x-rays the doctor said she had a crack in the tooth. He gave her a Rx for antibiotics to be taken for a week, and if it doesn't work he will try something else.
July 4th was hot and we just watched the great fireworks on TV. First from New York, then Bostons.
Today - Carlyn had x-rays taken of her foot and she was told it was mending properly, and the only thing was to continue with the ice packs as needed.

The weather has turned hot; the only advantage is there isn't any mosquitoes.  We went to York for eye appointments. Our doctor gave us a good checkup, saying she would see us next year unless we see a change in vision.

Every year Stromsburg, NE has a Swedish Midsommar festival, This year being their 60th, over the Midsommar weekend. We generally attend, and are attracted to the wonderful smorgasbord served over the lunch hours by customed women. We ate much more than we should, but enjoyed the food, and conversation with table mates we just met, and got aquainted with.
The rest of the day was just hanging out at home.
